Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The former head of state was found guilty of orchestrating a armed takeover in last fall and sentenced more than over two decades in incarceration, but he continued under confinement pending appeals.

High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a safety action after fresh information were revealed.

This involved attempting to break his tracking device and a call for a demonstration that could facilitate a possible escape.

Judicial Records Show Escape Concerns

In a document approving the arrest, Justice Moraes said data from the facility tracking his home detention suggested the ex-president's "intention to break the surveillance device to ensure success in his flight.

This, it said, would be made easier by the disorder caused by the protest called by his son.

His offspring, Flávio Bolsonaro, who serves as a senator, called for a gathering of his backers near the former president's residence to take place on the weekend.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on social media on Friday: Do you plan to struggle for your homeland, or observe everything from your mobile device there on your couch? I call on you to battle with us."

He said the gathering would be so backers could seek divine intervention for his physical condition and for the restoration of democratic rule in our nation."

Embassy Asylum Concerns

The former president was convicted of heading a plot aimed at maintaining his control after he lost the presidential race to his ideological adversary, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

High Court judges said that he was aware of a scheme which encompassed plans to assassinate the current president and his vice-presidential running mate, his vice-presidential candidate, and to detain and kill Alexandre de Moraes - the top judicial official who has been managing his judicial proceedings.
