The star has handed over the full amount of his £25,000 honor cash to the trust for venues, which works to preserve the UK's independent music venues.

Fender was awarded the cheque on 16 October as his new release his work was chosen as the top album of the last 12 months.

He has chosen to donate the funds to the MVT, in appreciation of the vital role small stages fulfilled in his early career.

"I couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the performances I performed around the region, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," stated the artist. "These venues are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these venues have shut down – about one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, well-known musicians like the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which supports smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also joined in, generating in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to help thirty-eight local spots across the UK.

The money helped spaces that were confronting possible closure due to difficulties arising from water damage, blazes and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and sound issues.

Some locations were granted monetary aid in improving amenities and technical equipment that directly benefitted musicians and fans.

"The idea that revenue from shows in major spaces backs the independent spots, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has said.

The musician is among several artists to give his Mercury Prize prize money to worthy causes.

In Pulp won the trophy in the mid-90s for their album their work, frontman Jarvis Cocker declared that the group would donate their prize money to the organization War Child.

During 2002, artist the artist shared her prize between multiple organizations, including the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"I also contributed a £1,000 to the center, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked better apparatus," Ms Dynamite explained to the media.

Previously, they contributed their funds to the local youth club that nurtured their group, alongside other grassroots music organisations.

And the 1994 recipients M People contributed their prize to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was diagnosed the illness.

"Receiving the award was ample," said artist the singer. "The prize was the bonus but we could do without the cherry, because we had the honor. So our winning impacted another person's life."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust shared it had protected a couple of small stages in south-east England, by transferring them to local control.

The first in Southampton and the second in that location were bought under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is backed by the arts council and supporters who buy "stakes" in the properties.
