Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of characters who will branch out from the main group to undertake their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.
This warrior group consists of Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might look out of place, but the actions of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—used the foes for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.
Casimir then cleared his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each character has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, desires vengeance.
- The adventurer has experience in the region and advises that it is a nasty environment.
- The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the team access places they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:
- Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them little choice but to travel to the northern region in quest for Casimir.
What’s Next?
According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the players to form the Questers and Schemers tables.
